The "Fence Post" Error
One of the most common mistakes in date math is the Off-By-One error.
Example: How many days are there from January 1 to January 2?
- Subtraction Logic: 2 - 1 = 1 day. (This is the "Difference").
- Inclusive Logic: If you work on Jan 1 AND Jan 2, you worked 2 days.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I enter a date in the past?
Yes. If you enter a start date after the end date, the tool will simply show the difference (usually as a positive number of days), or indicate that the duration is negative depending on the mode.
What about time zones?
This calculator uses "Calendar Dates" (Local Time). It ignores time zones. Feb 1 is Feb 1 regardless of whether you are in Tokyo or New York.
How far back can it go?
It supports the standard Gregorian calendar range, effectively going back thousands of years. You can calculate the days since the signing of the Declaration of Independence if you want.
Calendar Standard
This tool assumes the Gregorian calendar. Historical dates prior to 1582 (when the calendar was adopted) may not align perfectly with the Julian calendar used at the time.
